Kalmar konstmuseum

Kalmar is one of Sweden’s oldest cities. The Castle – Kalmar slott – is the best preserved Renaissance castle in Sweden. The Castle was founded in the 12th Century and here the kalmar Union was signed in 1397.

Today Kalmar is a modern city with a modern university but also well aware of it’s history. Integrating a new Art Museum close to the Castle was not easy. I think the solution is excellent. The new Museum – Kalmar konstmuseum – created by Tham & Videgård Architecs, looks like it has carefully been lifted in between the trees in the park surrounding the Castle.
